Cosmetology

With the advent of the day spa and salon, the cosmetology profession has reached its largest market ever. Cosmetologists can be found in every aspect of the beauty industry and are licensed to perform the full menu of services.

Your instruction will cover such subjects as: Hair Design, Chemical Services, Skin Care, Nail Care and Salon Management. You will study concepts of hair texture and how to create the ideal haircut or style for your clients.  You’ll learn the latest trends in the field, incorporating techniques in haircutting, hair coloring, and hair designing for men, women and children.  You’ll also learn about nail services such as manicures and pedicures, and esthetic skin care procedures. While practicing your technical skills on actual clients, you will develop the marketing and communication skills necessary to deliver the services requested by salon clients. This program requires 1600 hours to complete.

Start beauty school today and share your sense of style as a professional cosmetologist!  Your sense of style will blossom as you master basic, contemporary and advanced techniques in cosmetology.  As a cosmetology professional you can use your creativity, personality and sense of style to connect with others and help people feel great about the way they look.  If you’re an artistic, engaging person interested in style and fashion and in working with others, you’ll enjoy San Diego’s finest beauty school.

Hair Design
At American Beauty Institute you will learn different hairstyles and methods of hair design. You'll also learn how different products interact with the hair and how different products may interact with different client's hair types.

Hair Cutting
Cutting and styling are major parts of the American Beauty Institute curriculum. The cosmetology program will teach you how to understand what your clients want, and how to execute the latest styles.  You’ll learn about the latest tools, techniques, and haircutting trends. You will learn the principals of haircutting as well as how to build and maintain a book of clients.

Color & Texture
Understanding how to give clients the color and texture they want is both an art and a science. American Beauty Institute students learn the skills required to apply a variety of color and texture results.  Our bold curriculum shows you how to mix and apply color, as well as how various coloring tools are used. Hands-on lab projects help you master how to determine a client’s current hair color, how to create new colors, principles of salon safety, and more.

Basic Skin Care
Basic skin care is an important skill set for all cosmetologists. Understanding skin care opens doors to ever more career possibilities, and ensures that our graduates know how to recommend, apply, and sell skin care products.  Understanding the basics of anatomy and physiology also enables you to perform challenging but all-important services centered on the sensitive head and face area, perhaps the most important area of any client’s beauty regimen.

Business/Retail Training
American Beauty Institute students master all the basics of the cosmetology business. The curriculum includes resume creation, job search, management principles, and more.  Many of our graduates aspire to one day own their own salon, and at the American Beauty Institute we teach the skill sets central to success.
